Drunken Belgian (32) defies all traffic rules in Maastricht, appears to be fed up | Abroad

A 32-year-old man from Belgium was arrested after causing serious traffic disruption in Maastricht with his car last night. When he was arrested it became clear why.

According to a spokesperson for the Royal Military Police, the Belgian drove much too fast through the center of the Dutch city, near the Belgian border. Moreover, he drove against traffic and over the sidewalk.

Escaped

When he was stopped, the man left his car in the middle of the road and fled on foot. He was caught a little later and was eventually allowed to surrender his driver’s license.

Bottles of drinks in car

The man turned out to have eleven times the alcohol level in his blood. There were open bottles of liquor in his car.

According to the spokesperson, eleven times too much alcohol is “really a lot, more than above average.” The Dutch Public Prosecution Service decides what will happen to the Belgian.
