Drunk races with Brandenburger on the hood on the highway

By Frank Selig

Like a stuntman, a man from Brandenburg jumps onto the bonnet of a fugitive from an accident. Clings there for minutes while driving at up to 100 km/h, can eventually even overwhelm the Rambo racer!

But this incredible scene does not come from Hollywood, but took place on Sunday evening on the A 72 in Saxony.

That had happened

Tim Zschüttig (23) is from Kehrigk (Oder-Spree district) on his way to work in Bavaria. He wants to overtake a Mazda driver at a construction site near Reichenbach in Vogtland. It is already dark. The car in front of him lurches, Tim flashes the headlights.

“When I overtook at about 85 km/h, he suddenly rammed me on the right,” Zschüttig told the BZ

After that, everything runs as after a normal crash: hazard warning lights on, pull over, the Mazda driver stops behind them – at the wheel a 59-year-old Pole.

But then the shock: “When I had put on the life jacket and just called the police, he just drove off!”

Because he suffered damage from hit-and-run accidents a few years ago, the young man reacted defiantly: “I stood in front of it and jumped on the bonnet when he accelerated.”

With only one hand and cell phone to his ear, he clings tightly while the Pole keeps trying to shake him off by braking. About four kilometers long! Finally he stops. “Probably because I flew against the pane and it splintered.”

When he wants to pull him out of the car, the 59-year-old attacks him, but the Brandenburger is able to overpower him. The arriving police arrested the Mazda driver – he had a blood alcohol content of 1.9!

As if by a miracle, Tim Zschüttig remained almost unharmed: “Only a finger and a wrist were bruised, I was lucky.”
