A car caught fire on Eindhovenseweg in Valkenswaard on Friday afternoon. Passersby saw a moving car suddenly burst into flames. The driver had an angel on his shoulder and managed to get the car out of the way, after which it completely burned out.

The car was driving from Aalst in the direction of Valkenswaard when it went wrong near Geenhovensedreef. The two occupants were able to get out in time and escaped unscathed.

Significant damage
Shortly afterwards the flames spread and the car completely burned out. The fire brigade arrived on site to extinguish the fire, but could not prevent the car from being lost. The verge along the road was also damaged by the fire.

The road surface was also damaged due to the high heat of the fire. The asphalt will therefore have to be replaced at a later date.

Road temporarily closed
The Eindhovenseweg was temporarily closed so that the emergency services could do their work. Once the situation was under control, traffic could again be guided step by step past the accident site.

It is not clear how the fire could have started.
