A few days ago, boxing star Anthony Joshua was involved in a fatal traffic accident. Charges are now being brought against the driver of the car.
After the serious traffic accident in Nigeria, in which boxing star Anthony Joshua was also in the car, the driver has to answer in court. On Friday, according to police, a man was charged with “reckless and dangerous driving resulting in death” and, among other things, driving without a valid driver’s license. According to the British “The Sun” it is Adeniyi Mobolaji K.
The 46-year-old was traveling with Joshua, whose family comes from Nigeria, and his friends Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele on Monday on a busy highway between Lagos and Ibadan in the southwest of the country when their luxury car collided with a stationary truck. Joshua suffered minor injuries and was released from hospital on Wednesday, according to Nigerian police. His two friends – Ghami was Joshua’s long-time strength and conditioning coach, Ayodele his personal coach – had died at the scene of the accident.
The defendant could be released on bail of five million naira (around 3,000 euros) and two sureties. However, he will remain “in custody until he has fulfilled the conditions for his release,” police spokesman Oluseyi Babaseyi told the AFP news agency. Adeniyi Mobolaji K. must appear in court on January 20th.
Initial investigations on Tuesday revealed that the vehicle was traveling at excessive speed and the tire burst before the accident, according to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE). Joshua himself has not yet commented publicly on the incident.
