Driver (45) under the influence rams into tree and rolls over during New Year’s Eve | Menin

A spectacular accident happened early on New Year’s morning along the Moeskroenstraat in Menen. A man was slightly injured. His driver’s license was revoked because he drank too much.

The driver in question, a 45-year-old man from Menen, drove his BMW from the direction of Rekkem at 4 am. Things went wrong for some reason near Roterijstraat. The man veered from his lane and crashed into a large tree on the left side of the road. The impact was so severe that the tree promptly snapped and the BMW rolled over. It was initially feared that the driver was trapped in the wreckage, but that was not the case.

Turn-by-turn traffic

The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Menen campus of AZ Delta for treatment. The man had drunk too much, his driver’s license was revoked for 15 days. The Menenaar’s BMW suffered irreparable damage. The fire brigade sawed down the fallen tree to avoid nuisance in the area. Due to the accident, only alternating traffic was possible in Moeskroenstraat for a while. Revelers on their way home had to exercise some patience during the towing process because the road was completely closed.
