UpdateAdrian Oswaldo Sura Reyes, 24, the driver of the car that crashed into a crowd on Saturday during a benefit evening in Berwick, Pennsylvania, also killed his mother after the incident. That’s what the police report. It was previously known that after the crash, in which a 50-year-old woman was killed, the man had attacked another woman. It turns out that that woman was his own mother. Reyes said he was “tired of arguing with her”.

According to the police, 24-year-old Reyes had a discussion with his mother on Saturday evening at their home in the town of Nescopeck. The young man had then gotten into his car and was driving through nearby Berwick at about 6:15 PM. He said he was “very frustrated” and “tired by constantly arguing with his mother, including about money” and wanted it to stop.

At the same time, some 75 people gathered in a parking lot in front of a bar, on the occasion of a benefit evening in honor of the victims of the massive house fire in Nescopeck on 5 August. Seven adults and three children died.

Reyes first drove past the parking lot, then turned back shortly after and “drive through the crowd,” police said. During his interrogation, Reyes himself emphasized that he had hit the group at high speed. Surveillance images also show how the driver suddenly accelerates. One person, a 50-year-old woman, was killed. Seventeen others were injured. Among them, five more victims are said to be in critical condition.

The community is very shocked by the drama.

Mother beaten to death

The suspect drove back home after the crash, but saw his mother – 56-year-old Rosa Reyes – walking on the street during the drive back. Reyes stated that he first ran her over with his car, after which he hit her several times with a hammer. The woman did not survive the horrific attack.

When the twenty-something was led away by police on Sunday morning, he said nothing more than “sorry” to the press present. According to the local newspaper ‘Press Enterprise’, the young man has already been given a probationary period for another heated argument with his mother in 2020, in which he allegedly punched her in the face with her own smartphone because she didn’t let him use it.
