For many years he was one of the best offensive players, especially the Italian series A. Now Dries Mertens is coming to an end.

Dries Mertens announced the end of his career. The Belgian offensive player will not continue his active career after June 30th – his contract with Galatasaray expires on this date. In a video, the 38-year-old explained: “I stop with football.”

For one last time, Mertens wants to be on the pitch on July 5 – at the farewell game of his long -time companion Marek Hamsik in Bratislava.

The striker played a total of 109 caps for Belgium between 2011 and 2022 and scored 21 goals. He had his most successful time in the SSC Naples jersey, for which he played from 2013 to 2022 and was involved in 238 goals in 397 competitive games (148 goals, 90 templates). Before that, he was under contract with FC Utrecht and PSV Eindhoven. Most recently, he ran for Galatasaray for three years.
