Dresden beats Mannheim – and initially overtakes Regensburg

Waldhof Mannheim also remained unsuccessful in the second third division game of the new year. There is a 0-2 defeat against the current league leaders Dynamo Dresden.

Third division team SV Waldhof Mannheim also lost their second competitive game of the new year. On Tuesday evening there was a 0:2 (0:1) defeat against second-placed Dynamo Dresden in the pouring rain. Waldhof thus missed a breakthrough in the fight to stay in the league in front of 12,514 spectators in the Carl Benz Stadium.

Overall, Mannheim showed improvement compared to Saturday’s 1-2 defeat at VfB Lübeck. In particular, the Waldhof debut of Kevin Goden, who repeatedly showed good approaches on the right wing, was promising, although not crowned with success. With the defeat, the Waldhof remains in third-to-last place in the table.

Bentley Baxter Bahn with own goal

In the first round, Mannheim stood up to the favored guests for a long time. Even though once again there were no clear chances, the commitment in attack was unmistakable. The blow to the neck came during a period of urgency for the Dresden team. As a result of a corner, Tom Zimmerschied headed the ball onto Mannheim’s Bentley Baxter Bahn’s thigh. From there the ball rolled towards the goal, goalkeeper Lucien Hawryluk dived and only got hold of the ball behind the line. The decision was made in the 61st minute when Lucas Cueto beat Hawryluk from around ten meters and Dynamo then rocked the game home.

With the victory, the East Germans took the lead in the table, at least for one night, and are tied with Jahn Regensburg in first place with 46 points. But Jahn can overtake again tomorrow with a draw at Borussia Dortmund II.
