This second week of the year, King’s Commissioner Jetta Klijnsma looked back on 2024 in the provincial government. But more happened in Drenthe.

A great loss for Assen, that is how historical associations from the city react to the devastating fire on Monday evening in a farm in Witten. The ancient building dates back to the earliest history of the provincial capital, but was damaged beyond repair when a fire broke out. The historical associations are now calling for the farm to be rebuilt.

The province warned sheep farmers in the middle and north of Drenthe on Thursday about wolf attacks. In three weeks, at least sixty sheep died in that region, probably due to the actions of a wolf pack that lives in the area.

And on Friday a mysterious story in Oosthalen, a street in the outskirts of Hooghalen. Residents there have been receiving dozens of bank cards at home for a few months now. Addressed to unknown names.
