Drenthe Toen Podcast: an airport to love

The book that Gerrit Boxem wrote about the airport, 55 years of Hoogeveen airport, from simple airstrip to full-fledged airport, narrates from the beginning of the airfield. In the 1960s, the ambitious mayor Bakker gave the impetus. Boxem: “Fokker, then still called Lichtwerk, and Philips were also interested in coming to Hoogeveen. The companies had their own aircraft and an airport in the vicinity would be a strong argument to make the choice in favor of Hoogeveen. The slogan ‘Hoogeveen, city in a storm’ says it all: the coveted airport was built in the early 1960s, and so were the companies.
