Drenthe sisters Mik and Mees on stage at Hollands Hoop: ‘Fat cool’

There is a special Drenthe touch to Hollands Hoop, the great music theater spectacle, which can be seen these weeks in the Groningen countryside, at the Hoog Hammen farm in Overschild. The sisters Mik (14) and Mees (11) from Paterswolde are on stage together in the spectacle about weed baron Fokke, known from the television series Hollands Hoop. And the girls think that’s ‘super cool’ and ‘very cozy’.

Their “super proud” mother Irma is also beaming from ear to ear. She beams completely when the two youngest daughters in the Boerema house tell them enthusiastically about their great adventure on the theater stage. In the spectacle, for example, Mik is a violinist in an amateur orchestra, and Mees plays the Roma boy Milos.

And of course they dream of more. Although they don’t shout it from the rooftops, because they are young dogs that are still discovering the art world. But Mik has set her sights on the conservatory. And Mees especially likes the theatre. Both girls also have it in their genes, the love for music, dance and theater. And they are serious about it early on. For example, Mik is a violinist with the Haydn Youth String Orchestra in Groningen, and Mees is a member of the preparatory course for theater group De Noorderlingen in the city. She also plays the piano and likes to dance.

The fact that they are both on stage at Hollands Hoop has come about right away. “My parents had booked tickets for this theater performance by Zummerbühne. They then received a newsletter about Hollands Hoop, with a message that they were looking for boys between the ages of eight and twelve. ‘Always nice to participate in something like this’, we thought then, ‘but that probably won’t work, because I’m a girl.’ But I tried, and I succeeded. I’m in, super cool,” says Mees. “I just had to cut off a bit of my hair to make it look a bit more boyish.”

Bigger sister Mik rolls into Hollands Hoop a little later, a real coincidence, she says with glittering eyes. “I went to a rehearsal with Mees. Then I was approached by a lady who was involved in the organization. She recognized me as a violinist. I had already played with the Noord Nederland Orkest in Assen. That was for the youth project Go Classic, where they bring talented musicians together. She said ‘we are still looking for musicians for the piece, do you want to participate?’ Well, she didn’t have to ask again, I said yes right away!
