Anyone who is still unsure about which box will be colored red in the House of Representatives elections can contact RTV Drenthe’s voting assistance from today. Voters can use statements to find out which parties they have the most similarities with. Three Drenthe politicians also completed the voting aid today and they all naturally hoped to end up with their own party.
The voting aid launched today has a large number of statements that are the same for every province, but there are also three statements that specifically relate to Drenthe. One of them is about the wolf. Do the three politicians – Derk Evert Waalkens, Elke Slagt-Tichelman and Nico Uppelschoten – believe that the government should commit itself to protecting the wolf?
“That’s fine in the zoo, just put the wolves there behind a fence,” says Waalkens, number 33 on the list of the BoerBurgerBeweging. “But they shouldn’t run around wildly.” Slagt-Tichelman, in place 19 on the GroenLinks/PvdA list, makes a different statement: “The government must indeed commit itself to this, because the European Union has decided that the wolf has a protected status.”
Both politicians agree on another statement, namely that the government should spend more money on facilities in the region. “A lot of money goes to big cities, but it is really important that community centers and libraries in the region can remain open,” says Slagt-Tichelman. Uppelschoten, number 39 on the PVV list, also agrees. “I completely agree. I think the region is poor, with a lot of facilities.”
Uppelschoten is somewhat tense about the results of the voting aid. “I’m curious to see what I end up with.” Slagt-Tichelman says she is certain she will end up with her own party. Waalkens also does not think he will be surprised by the results of the voting aid, but it will turn out slightly differently.
