Just one more night’s sleep and then the Drenthe 1000 starts again. Radio Drenthe’s end-of-year list will kick off tomorrow afternoon at 12 noon. On New Year’s Eve just before 6 p.m. we will know which album is number 1.

It’s Beautiful Wark again Dead Silence? Daniël Lohues returns to the top step with This is where I come from? It might be The Guardian Angel by Marco Schuitmaker? Or maybe it is a classic like Hotel California or Bohemian Rhapsody? “That will remain a surprise for a while, because we are not going to reveal the number 1 yet,” presenter René Steenbergen remains mysterious. “But it has again become a beautiful list, with a striking amount of music from the region.”

Still, Steenbergen wants to reveal a few things. “Bouke is on the list 23 times and Hannah Mae is also well represented with 10 songs.” Hannah Mae made her national breakthrough this year because of her participation in the television program The Best Singers. “Tangarine is also in the list for the first time this year, with three songs. Sander and Arnout Brinks participated in the same program.”

Other main suppliers include Jannes and Cuby + Blizzards, of course. “And of course Daniël Lohues is on the list almost 50 times, both solo and with Skik and The Louisiana Blues Club.”

Steenbergen is pleased that there are so many Drenthe artists in the Drenthe 1000. “You can also see that the Drenthe 1000 has really become a Drenthe party.” For example, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, two global giants, both appear ‘only’ nine times in the list. “I find that quite striking. But on the other hand, Creedence Clearwater Revival, also a band from that category, is doing very well again.”
