It was already clear that keeper Nick Olij would come to PSV from Sparta. But on Thursday the Eindhoven club came up with the confirmation. Olij has signed a four -year contract, PSV announced. “We start at zero, that belongs to a top club like PSV. The task is to show that I am only in the team,” says the new acquisition on the website of the club.
Olij excelled this season at Sparta Rotterdam and recently was part of the selection of the Dutch national team for the games against Finland and Malta. The former goalkeeper of Young AZ, Top Oss and NAC Breda was in the interest of several clubs, but it was PSV that convinced him to come to Eindhoven. There he will try to conquer the base place of the left goalkeeper Walter Benitez.
“With Nick we get an excellent option for the place under the bar,” says football affairs director Earnest Stewart. “He is very strong in playing football and fits very well with the spelfilosophy that we and our trainer advocate.”
For Olij, a dream has become reality. “I looked forward to this day that I could put my signature. After Sparta – PSV I was told that the club wanted to make serious work of it. After that I talked to the trainer about what my share can be, about the way of playing. That gave a good feeling.”
PSV has another keeper under contract with Joël Drommel. Various media also report that the arrival of goalkeeper Daniel Peretz to Eindhoven would also have been settled. The Israelian exchanged Maccabi Tel Aviv for Bayern Munich in August 2023.
