More than 40 hikers were flown to safety by helicopter on Saturday local time in New Zealand after a wildfire quickly spread in Tongariro National Park, a popular hiking destination on the country’s North Island that is home to several volcanoes. The fire has already destroyed about 1,100 hectares of the national park on Sunday local time and is still not under control.
