Harry Styles played the opening concert of his “Love on Tour” tour in Perth on Monday (February 20). During the show, the star let herself be talked into doing a “shoey.” Consuming a drink – usually beer – from a shoe that was worn a short time before.

After an extended exchange with fans, during which Styles encouraged a man named Scott to drink a “Shoey” himself, he returned the favor. Motivated by rhythmic shouts of “Your Turn,” the star thought briefly and intensely, but then took off his Adidas x Gucci “Gazelle” sneaker. He filled it with coke and hosted the following by saying, “This is one of the most disgusting traditions I’ve ever witnessed.” Then he dumped the contents of the shoe and put it back on. He then joked that he would discuss what he had experienced “in detail” with his therapist.

As the evening progressed, the 29-year-old covered the song “The Horses” by Australian pop great Daryl Braithwaite, with the full support of the audience. Shortly after, he said he “feels Australia in his veins”.

Harry Styles isn’t the first musician to get carried away with the “Shoey”. In 2018, Machine Gun Kelly performed at a concert in Sydney. Although internationally known and historical, as exemplified by the “Bierboot”, also firmly anchored in Germany, the “Shoey” has become something very Australian in recent years. In this case, the cultural ambassador is Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo, who has been drinking this way since 2016 following success.

Styles resumes his tour in Melbourne on February 24th. After traveling to Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia, the 29-year-old is coming to Europe and Germany on May 17th and 18th at the Olympic Stadium in Munich. His album HARRY’S HOUSE won him Album of the Year at this year’s Grammys.
