In the first division, Telstar lost the cellar cracker against TOP Oss. The people of Velsen received the winning goal from Brabant just before the end and were unable to recover from the blow: 1-0. To make matters worse, top scorer Zakaria Eddahchouri was injured.
In Brabant, Telstar immediately suffered a setback in the opening phase. Zakaria Eddahchouri dropped out with a knee injury. The striker, who already has eleven goals to his name, had to stop the fight after just over fifteen minutes. The injury could also have unpleasant consequences for Eddahchouri personally, because he is in the interest of FC Groningen. The attacker was soon replaced by Christos Giousis.
The first big opportunity was for Telstar. After twenty minutes of play, Jay Kruiver gave a hard cross after a flashy attack, but Youssef el Kachati failed to get the ball behind TOP Oss goalkeeper Mike Havekotte. Despite Eddahchouri’s injured retirement, Telstar continued to play better football. However, both teams kept each other in good balance and great opportunities were not forthcoming, despite the fact that substitute Giousis was still close with a shot from long range.
Mike Snoei’s team was significantly better than bottom line TOP Oss, but had difficulty getting into a scoring position. El Kachati was still dangerous for a while after a through ball from Kruiver, but it was mostly dependent on Giousis in an attacking sense. TOP Oss, which has only scored twelve league goals, was very sloppy and could not get much done.
Into the ship
Tom Overtoom shot dangerously on target ten minutes before the end. He tested Havekotte with a flaming shot that was deflected. A few minutes before the end, Telstar was finally defeated, completely against the odds. Konstantinos Doumtsios gave TOP Oss the lead: 1-0.
After the defeat, Telstar remains in nineteenth place in the first division and sees the bottom group TOP Oss approaching within a point. The meeting with competitor FC Den Bosch awaits next week.
