Vaasan Sport and Doug Shedden have terminated the head coach’s contract. The termination of the contract was initiated by Shedden, Sport says on its website.
– I want to thank Vaasa Sport for the opportunity to return to Finland! The time here has been great and the club has treated me well. Unfortunately, however, we were not able to change the course of the team in my time. My journey continues elsewhere and I wish Sport all the best in the future, says Shedden in the club’s press release.
Friday’s 0–3 loss to the Pelicans was the Canadian’s last game. Shedden arrived as Sport’s head coach at the end of October and managed to pilot the team in only 11 matches. The Vaasa club won only two of them and fell to last place in the league.
The sport season has started Juuso Hahl under the heel of. To the surprise of many, he was fired in mid-October, when the team was 13th in the league table.
Shedden is replaced Jussi Tapiowho has worked as Sport’s assistant coach during the early season. Tapio’s head coaching job covers the rest of the season.
– Jussi Tapio takes over the team immediately. After Shedden announced his desire to terminate the contract, appointing Tapio to the position was a very natural solution, as Jussi has worked for the club for a long time and knows the organization. He will also be an important part of next season’s coaching team, Sport’s sports director Ari-Pekka Pajuluoma tells.
Tapio will be seen for the first time as head coach on Thursday, December 11, 2025, when Sport and Pelicans meet in Vaasa.
