Dost immediately accurate when returning to Dutch fields: ‘This is what you do it for’ | NOW

Despite FC Utrecht’s loss of points, Bas Dost is very happy with his return to the Dutch fields. The striker celebrated his return on Saturday with two goals, giving his new team a point.

Dost, who started on the bench because he is not yet top fit, came into the field immediately after the break at a 2-0 deficit. It only took him seven minutes to score. The striker reacted attentively when RKC goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen could not control a shot by Othmane Boussaid.

“You bet on such a ball. You do that hundreds of times and very often that ball does not fall well,” 33-year-old Dost responded to ESPN. “But the one time it does happen, that’s what you do it for. That’s enjoyment, it’s all worth it.”

Not long ago, Dost considered ending his football career, but the eighteen-time international of Orange is happy that he has decided against it. Dost also made his second goal five minutes before the end and is therefore partly top scorer with PSV attacker Cody Gakpo.

“You always see the beautiful things: the goals I have scored or beautiful attacks. But there is much more to it, there are also a lot of annoying moments,” continued Dost.

‘I didn’t come here for nothing’

“It’s not that I thought extremely about quitting, but I did look for myself: what else do I want? Then I ended up at FC Utrecht. I’m very happy that I did. The people I work with treat me with respect and I get a lot of pleasure out of that. Then the goals come naturally.”

Dost signed against RKC for his 400th and 401st league goal, but the striker’s hunger is far from sated. “I didn’t come here for nothing, I want to score goals. I don’t settle for ten goals, that’s clear.”

“I do have a target in my head, but I will not share that number with everyone. In any case, there are a lot of them,” said the striker, who became top scorer in the Eredivisie in the 2011/2012 season at SC Heerenveen with 32 goals.
