Kenyan marathon runner Titus Ekiru has been banned for ten years for doping.

In addition, according to the assessment of the 31-year-old Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) is trying to hinder the investigations against him. Ekiru triumphed in Milan and Abu Dhabi in 2021, and banned substances were detected in subsequent doping tests. It was then temporarily blocked in June 2022, and Ekiru is not allowed to start until 2032.

Sixth best time in marathon history

In addition, his results including the run in Milan were canceled and he has to return prize money and trophies. In Milan he caused a stir with a time of 2:02:57 hours, which was the sixth best time in marathon history.

Ekiru had claimed the substances were the result of legitimate medical treatment for injuries. However, investigations by the AIU and the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) revealed that the runner had provided false information about hospital visits and injections. A doctor is also being investigated because he is said to have falsified hospital documents.
