Consumers purchased more goods and services in May than a year earlier, reports the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). The total consumption of households was 1.1 percent higher in the fifth month of the year than in May 2024. In April, consumers spent 0.3 percent more.
On services, such as insurance, public transport, restaurants, events and hairdressers, consumers spent 1.8 percent more in May. Spending on services make up more than half of the total domestic consumer spending by households. 0.3 percent less was spent on food and stimulants.
Households also have 0.2 percent fewer goods, such as energy, motor fuels and articles for personal care, than in May 2024. They also bought 0.7 percent more sustainable goods, such as means of transport.
