Do you have to get a cheesecake, or can a person do without? How long will the cheese stays in the refrigerator? We gathered answers to the most common questions about cheese lovers.

1. The retention time of cheese

When the cheese is kept correctly, it remains unopened at least until the promised date on the package. After opening the cheese package, the Best Before Stamp mentioned there is no longer valid, but the cheese can be used as long as it tastes, smells and looks good -even after the best before date.

– The usability of the cheese is the most smell – if it is abnormal, such as basement or yeast -like, the cheese may be spoiled. Also a clear deviation in the appearance such as microbial growth or changed color indicates cheese pollution, Valio’s Product Development Manager Emmi Määttä tells you.

Matured refined cheese and melted cheeses are kept cool for a couple of weeks after opening the package. Instead, the cream cheese should be eaten within a few days.

2. Do you need a cheesecake?

The cheese is best stored in the refrigerator at temperatures below + 8 ° C.

Cheese cups may not be needed. The same thing is done when the cheese retains in its packaging properly closed or alternatively wrapped in fresh wrap. Also, a dense, closed box is suitable for storage.

Store the cheese separately from strong-aroma foods such as fruits or flash, as the tastes are sensitive to the cheese.

Hard, matured cheeses can well be stored for a few hours at room temperature. They also taste best at room temperature. So take the cheeses out 1-2 hours before serving.

Melts and cream cheese should always be kept cool.

3. Freezing the remains

If your refrigerator has more cheese than you can eat, don’t worry – cheese can be frozen. The type of cheese, freshness and condition at the time of freezing affect how well the cheese can withstand freezing.

It is advisable to freeze the cheese in grated bags and use a bag at a time for cooking. You can also freeze the melted cheese.

Freezing of cheese in whole pieces is not recommended. In this case, the flavors may occur in the cheese and its structure may dry and fragile.

It is recommended to have a maximum of three months for cheese freezing time. Melt the frozen cheese in the refrigerator and use as soon as possible after thawing.
