Donegi Abena new light heavyweight champion Glory, title fight Wisse – Ozcaglayan in the making | Martial arts

Donegi Abena (24) is the new light heavyweight champion at Glory. Tonight in Essen he captured the title from Sergei Maslobojev (35), who suffered a large cut to his shin in round four. The referee stopped the match, causing Maslobojev to his indignation to lose to Abena by technical knockout.

The title is a great success for Abena, a Surinamese Dutchman who suffered four defeats in a row not long ago. He recently defeated Felipe Micheletti, after which he was presented with a title fight against Masloboyev. After an attractive and offensive fight in which Abena had a slight advantage, the cut on the shin of the Lithuanian made the decision. Masloboyev was furious at the referee’s decision to stop the fight, while the joy in Abena’s camp was great.

Middleweight champion Donovan Wisse (25) was initially supposed to fight for the title against Cesar Almeida (34), but the Brazilian weighed a kilo too much yesterday. The fight continued, but Wisse’s title was no longer at stake and instead of five rounds, the match was reduced to three rounds. The Surinamese Dutchman strategically fought those three rounds and defeated Almeida, his seventh Glory victory in a row, knowing that he would retain his title even if he lost.

The big favorite to fight for Wisses title now is Serkan Ozcaglayan (28). He showed in Essen once again to be a knockout specialist. After a patient match he knocked out Sergej Braun (33) from Germany towards the end of round two.

The Turkish Dutchman has now won four of his five Glory fights and his third on (technical) knockout. Ozcaglayan dedicated his victory to Turkey, the country he is fighting for, which has been hit by a massive earthquake. Then he asked Glory for a chance to fight for the middleweight title. Wisse also called that poster logical afterwards.
