The glasses turned out to be at least two to three centuries old. After the donation, the museum announced that it is a masterpiece from the collection, lead glass from the period 1760-1780.

An even older glass dates from the period 1715-1750. On that glass you can see the coat of arms of Hoorn, carried by a lion and a unicorn.

Collection manager Alice van der Wiel couldn’t contain her joy when she saw the ancient gift with engraved images of Noah’s Ark. “The donation is a wonderful addition to the museum’s glass collection. We are really very happy with it.”

The glasses are special because they were decorated using a special method. For example, with a rapidly rotating wheel that was held on the glass, a small layer was always cut out of the glass. That made for beautiful decorations.
