Donald Trump knocks on Supreme Court to prevent his tax return from being viewed | Abroad

Former US President Donald Trump has gone to the Supreme Court to prevent a House of Representatives committee from viewing his tax returns, NBC News reported Monday.

The chairman of the Ways and Means committee in the House of Representatives had already requested Trump’s tax returns from the previous six years in 2019. The US Treasury Department, then under President Trump, opposed this, but after Joe Biden became president, the ministry gave its approval. It ordered the IRS to turn over the documents to the commission. However, Trump appealed.

In August, a federal court in Washington DC ruled that the documents had to be transferred. But Trump said the judges had made several mistakes before he went to the appeals court.

It decided on Thursday that it will not put the order to transfer the documents to the parliament committee on hold. That means the Ways and Means committee must get the documents within a week. Trump will, however, appeal to the Supreme Court.

It is customary in the United States for presidential candidates to publish their tax returns. But Trump has always resisted that throughout his campaign and tenure. That led to a long battle between the Republican and the Democrats, who accuse him of cheating and therefore want to see his financial records and especially his tax returns.
