The earthquake that involved the top Italian referees and which led to the delivery of a notice of guarantee to the designator of Can A and B, Gianluca Rocchi, with the hypothesis of complicity in sports fraud, started from Pizzo, a Calabrian town in the province of Vibo Valentia, and from the Aia section of Catanzaro. It was, in fact, the 42-year-old Calabrian referee, Domenico Rocca, with a letter-complaint addressed to the National Arbitration Commission at the end of last season that started the investigation, archived at the sports justice level, but now at the center of the checks by the Milan Prosecutor’s Office.

Referee since 2000, from the age of 16, he was added to the regional team of Calabria in 2003, climbing the minor categories up to Promotion. In 2007 he joined Can D, where he met the man who would develop his career: Stefano Farina. The late former referee from Novi Ligure in Serie A immediately placed his trust in Domenico Rocca, who, in 2010, moved to Can C, where he refereed numerous matches in the then C1 championship. In 2015 he passed the course at the Coverciano Technical Center which allowed him to move from referee to assistant and move up to Can B. The most awaited day ever, however, for Domenico Rocca arrived on 12 February 2017, when he made his debut in Serie A, as a linesman in the Turin-Pescara match. The Calabrian referee remained on the staff of the top flight until last season, when, in a letter addressed to the National Referees Commission, he denounced his sense of frustration at having been, in his opinion, penalized by an unfair system.
