At the home World Cup in Planica, the Slovenian superstar Domen Prevc flew a ski jumper in front of him as far as never before. Afterwards the two -time world champion became emotional, but was already looking ahead.
“It was really amazing. Absolutely unbelievable. I knew that I had a good flight position, and after that I could do what I wanted. I was still trembling,” said Domen Prevc after his mega set to 254.5 meters at “Viaplay”.
Prevc had not yet correctly realized his historical success. “I have the feeling of reading a book or seeing a film, and I follow this figure that brings records. It was absolutely incredible,” said the 25-year-old, who had to leave the day’s victory to his compatriot Anze Lanisek.
The 28-year-old flew to 241.5 meters with a shorter attempt as a PrevC and better landing and successfully defended the lead after the first round.
However, Prevc won the victory in the first jumping at the World Cup final in Planica on Friday – a weekend like a “fairy tale” for him, as he described “24ur.com”. “If I had tried to predict the craziest scenario, I would not have predicted it,” said Prevc. “Anze won, I jumped world record and won on Friday, incredible.”
“Deep valleys and high peaks” in ski jumping
Ex-skipper Andreas Stjerne was also completely surprised by Prevc’s record show. “What a jump I didn’t see,” said the Norwegian “Viaplay” expert.
“In the past few weeks there have been deep valleys and high peaks in the ski jumping, and I have the feeling that we needed that after all the noise that has been,” added Stjerne with a view of the wave valley between top sporting performance and the fraud affair around manipulated jump suits of the Norwegians at the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Prevc already looked ahead. “This is a nice title, but I want to stay focused. Next year is the Olympic season. This is another dream that I want to fulfill.”
