Doja Cat and metal band Chaver have (almost) the same cover artwork

The two very different musicians probably hired the same artist for their cover design.

It can sometimes happen that two very different people in different places have the same idea. But when art is almost exactly identical, then that raises questions. This has now also happened to rapper Doja Cat and German metal band Chaver. Both artists have almost the same cover artwork for their records.

Doja Cat and Chaver: Same design, same artist

The parallels between Doja Cat’s announced new album SCARLET and Chaver’s forthcoming record OF GLOOM are almost absurd: Although the musicians’ genres couldn’t be different, both works will not only be released on the same day (September 22), the covers are pretty much the same. Both shells are mainly white with a red spider on it, with a small drop of blood above it. Only the position of the legs has changed a bit, but other than that you might think this is a copy. How could that happen?

Answers may be found in the origin of the album cover. Doja Cat and Chaver commissioned the same artist for them. His or her name is Dusty Ray, and Ray is mostly known for rather disturbing paintings Instagram known. There is a suspicion that Ray may have delivered the same work twice. Well, it’s not that simple after all.

Chaver shared the cover of their new record on their Instagram account back in July, mentioning their longstanding collaboration with Ray, which has been going on since the first album. Doja Cat, on the other hand, didn’t reveal their record covers until August 29 on Instagram. Doja has since deleted the post.

One can now speculate as to how the identical images could have come about. Dusty Ray, on the other hand, seems to have been aware of the similarity, because a short time later, Doja Cat’s cover appeared on Ray’s X (formerly Twitter) profile. This post is now gone.
