Many residents came by for a last dip. It was a nice ending for some, although not all four-legged friends were equally enthusiastic.
It was also an emotional moment for former rescuer Philippe Beeckaert, who worked there for more than 30 years. “It was a very nice period, I taught many people how to swim. But I also saved people, and of course people get into trouble. But I have never experienced a day like this with dogs here,” he said.
