“THEhe idea of creating this series of watercolors came to me while observing my dogs on the sofas”, admits the illustrator and graphic designer Giulia Carioti. So he started working on it an «enchanting combination for me and for some unthinkable, because until a few years ago (and still today in certain homes) let an animal get on a sofa it was a forbidden act.” By combining the two elements, by analogy or by contrast, «by color, size, narrative and fun», he gave life to Dogs on sofas, published by Altreconomia for the “Coots” series.

A curious and poetic book, which is a comfortable invitation to reflect on the transformation of our way of living, through a century of furnishings, and with the affectionate complicity of our four-legged friends.

Dogs on sofasthe watercolors of Giulia Carioti

«A tiny mongrel sinks into an immense sofa, a spotted coat overlaps with a checked upholstery, a brown dog camouflages itself with the spotted fabric, a puppy curls up imitating the spiral backrest… some even prefer the floor».

«This list could have gone on forever», explained the author, «and in this exercise I found every time a little of the joy I felt in my life taking in homeless dogstaken from kennels and from those who no longer wanted them, leading them to discover a comfortable, cared for, loved life». This is how the author recounts the genesis of the book.

When Dalmatian and Jack Russel arrive on design icons

The volume was born thanks to the author’s meeting with the Roman architects of 02A Studio who oversaw the selection of designer sofas and wrote the texts with her: small stories of imagined life. As “the Dalmatian occupies almost entirely Rizzatto’s 33 cushions like the German Shepherd occupies Gropius’ D51perhaps a little embarrassed. The dog (for me it is definitely a female) almost gets lost in the great Boa dei Campana while the Jack Russel masters Giovannetti’s Bazaar very well; after all, we know that they fear nothing or anyone”, writes Cecilia Di Lieto in the preface.
