Dog Millie had escaped on a hike and had been lost for four days when she was spotted on a tidal flat near Burnemouth. She threatened to drown in the sea due to the rising tide, prompting a rescue operation. However, several rescue attempts by the fire brigade, police and the coast guard were unsuccessful.
Millie’s chances of ever being reunited with her owner seemed to be shrinking, until a well-rested bystander came up with the idea of attaching a sausage to a drone in the hopes of getting the dog to safety, Sky News reported.
No sooner said than done. A sausage was tied to a drone with a rope. A drone pilot made sure the sausage landed near Millie to lure her away. The plan worked: the hungry dog followed the scented sausage in the direction of her rescuers, away from the sea.
Millie’s owner is relieved: “It was really great to have her back home.”
