Primark is likely to close its location on Düsseldorf Schadowstrasse.

The Irish textile discounter plans not to extend the rental agreement for the location, which expires on March 31, 2026. This was confirmed by a spokeswoman at the request of Fashionunited. The regional daily Rheinische Post had previously reported about it. So far, no final decision has been made. Primark is now the legally provided co -determination procedure.

More than 140 employees affected

The decision not to want to extend the rental agreement is based on the fact that the economic framework at this location no longer enables sustainably profitable operation, the spokeswoman said. Despite “intensive conversations” – including an offered rental reduction and reducing the sales area – there was no way to agree with the landlord.

The entire workforce is affected by the decision – 141 employees including Store Manager and People and Culture Manager. A corresponding social plan with a compensation for interests is to be negotiated.

Overall, Primark in Germany wants to continue to grow long -term and profitable. The company currently operates 27 German locations and opens two new areas this year with Rostock and Regensburg. These openings are part of a new store concept with which Primark specifically opens up regions in which the company has so far been underrepresented, according to the German headquarters in Essen.

In addition to the shop in the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital, for which there are no concrete plans for an alternative location, its currently no further location adjustments.
