Does Müller benefit from the departure of a star?

A US club announces the farewell of a large name-and could also make room for a transfer of the Bavaria attacker.
Does everything go very quickly with Thomas Müller – and the Los Angeles FC? The veteran of FC Bayern, who leaves the Munich World Cup, is already being publicly courted by LAFC coach Steven Cherundolo. And now it could get serious: Because the announced farewell to striker Olivier Giroud becomes a valuable squad square – that of the “designated player”.
This special status allows clubs of the Major League Soccer (MLS) to hire individual players outside the otherwise applicable salary limit. Giroud has held one of three of these places so far – and now he would be free for Müller.
Officially, LAFC confirmed on Friday that Giroud would play his last game against the Vancouver Whitecaps on June 29. The Frenchman, who is supposed to stand back to the OSC Lille before moving back home, looked back in the announcement of the club in his time in California: “I am happy that I contributed to the success of the LAFC. Giroud moved from AC Milan to Los Angeles in the summer of 2023, but could not convince in terms of sport. The 38-year-old scored three goals in 18 competitive games. Now his MLS chapter ends-and may open a new one for Thomas Müller.
