In order to prepare the squad for the coming Bundesliga season, second division champions FC Schalke 04 are reportedly taking a close look at VfB Stuttgart.

Right-back Christopher Olivier, a regular player in the Swabians’ U23 team in the third division, is said to have taken a shine to the Royal Blues.

According to Sky, signing the 20-year-old, who has both Austrian and South African citizenship, is not (yet) a priority at Schalke and Olivier is only one of several candidates. But the S04 decision-makers should find it interesting.

Olivier will make 32 appearances for VfB II in 2025/2026. He has five assists.

The youngster is also in the orbit of the professional team: head coach Sebastian Hoeneß called him into the matchday squad twice in the Europa League this season.

However, Olivier was not used.

Prominent return for FC Schalke 04?

After FC Schalke 04 finally secured promotion with a 1-0 win against Fortuna Düsseldorf at the weekend, there is a lot of speculation about what the future Bundesliga squad might look like.

Prominent names are also associated with the miners. Former Schalke player Sead Kolasinac should be able to imagine returning to his old place of work.

The 32-year-old’s contract with Atalanta Bergamo expires in the summer. According to reports, the northern Italians want to keep him and are offering a new three-year contract.

Atalanta’s offer is said to be financially more attractive than a possible Schalke offer.

A personnel decision is not expected soon. First, Kolasinac wants to contest the World Cup with Bosnia in Canada, the USA and Mexico.

This also applies to his compatriot and national team colleague Edin Dzeko, whose future at Schalke is open.
