Doctor Edwin from ‘Topdokters’ also lost a girlfriend after daughter: “These last weeks were the happiest of our lives”

In his rich career, doctor Erwin Van der Veken (64) operated on nearly 15,000 children. He can make most of them better. Unfortunately, in his own family, illness and death struck mercilessly: the loss of his daughter and recently his girlfriend Mieke left deep wounds. He incorporates this into his passion for photography. “I’ve worked all my life to heal children, but I couldn’t do anything for my own child.”
