It seems like ages ago, yet it was only two years back when the much-discussed Dutch talk show, Op1, aired its final episode. The question on many tongues is whether the presenting duos from this controversial program remain in touch with each other.

Op1 was the center of conversation in Dutch television for a while, though often for the wrong reasons. This talk show from NPO 1 was characterized by awkward duos, changing hosts, and a format that left nearly everyone puzzled, including its creators. Just like RTL Tonight, the primary question was always how long it would last.
Charles Speaks Up
In 2024, NPO finally pulled the plug, much to the relief of nearly everyone, except the presenters left unemployed on their couches, such as Charles Groenhuijsen. Do they still keep in touch with his former co-host Carrie ten Napel? “We contact each other occasionally, but not very intensively. I have been busy with completely different things,” he said in an interview with Weekend.
A Fantastic Choice
Charles contrasts himself with Carrie, noting their different styles. “We had a lot of fun at Op1, but we are quite different. I am involved in serious journalism, while Carrie is more about direct contact with people and inspiring them.” What does he think about her taking over the show Sterren op het Doek from Özcan Akyol? “She’s going to do fantastic! Carrie is perfectly suited for such a program.”
The Dynamic Duo
Charles believes that Carrie is better suited for that program than Eus. “You know, with Carrie, the program gets a different dynamic. Just like when André van Duin took over from the late Martine Bijl on Heel Holland Bakt. Both were fantastic, but it became a somewhat different and successful show because André is now doing it.”
“Eus does it fantastically, but he is not like Eva Jinek. Eva can have bursts of enthusiasm. Carrie also has that in her, in a different way. I have experienced this firsthand. The show is a golden formula, and Carrie is a great choice. She can put someone at ease very well.”
The interplay of their personalities during their time on Op1 undoubtedly contributed to the show’s unique flair. As time passes and they explore new avenues, it will be intriguing to see how their careers evolve separately while reflecting on the experiences they shared.
