Dive instructor responsible for fatal diving accident
That has been decided by the court in Veurne. According to the judge, the man made several errors of judgment. He was sentenced to 3 months in prison with a suspended sentence and a fine of 800 euros. The relatives are relieved.
The fatal diving accident happened in September 2019, in the North Sea in French waters. Magician Kurt Huberecht, 53, and his 36-year-old girlfriend Nathalie fail to surface during a dive to a shipwreck 38 meters deep. The diving instructor, a 59-year-old man from Ghent, asked for an acquittal. But he gets 3 months in prison with a suspension and a fine of 800 euros. Accidental death due to lack of precaution, the court said.
