MUNICH/BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – According to the Federal Government’s latest savings plans, the Bavarian District Council believes that hospitals are only left with a lawsuit in court. “If the federal government continues to underfinance the hospitals, the only option left for the affected hospitals is to go to court – to secure their existence. We support this path,” said the President of the municipal umbrella association, Thomas Karmasin (CSU), to the German Press Agency in Munich. If the federal government withdrew revenue from the clinics, the districts would have to step in – but that would not be affordable in the long term.
Karmasin appealed to the Bavarian members of the Bundestag to stop the cabinet decision in the parliamentary process: “This austerity package must not be carried out on the backs of the hospitals. It is about the existence of many municipally run clinics.”
On Wednesday, the federal cabinet launched a savings package worth two billion euros that is intended to reduce the pressure for new increases in health insurance contributions. It provides for spending curbs, especially at clinics. However, the health insurance companies continue to warn against increases.
According to the district council, the budget limitation is in open contradiction to the federal government’s commitments agreed at the beginning of October for full inflation compensation for the years 2022 and 2023. The compensation negotiated in the coalition agreement between the Union and the SPD should ensure the economic survival of many clinics until the planned hospital reform takes effect./had/DP/zb
