Max Eberl is the new sports director at FC Bayern and at the same time competition for sports director Christoph Freund. In the future, both will have to share the sporting business. Both have a similar profile.
During his introduction in the Munich Arena, the new sports director Max Eberl was visibly keen to mention Christoph Freund at every opportunity. He tackles the tasks “with Christoph”. “We will both push the squad forward. (…) We will try to make good suggestions. We will try to win the players for Bayern.” He spoke of “we” all the time, and only very rarely of “I”. Eberl vehemently objected to the possible disempowerment of Christoph Freund.

“Hierarchies don’t play any roles in my world,” replied the new sports director when asked about working with sports director Christoph Freund. They want to “get the best out of Bayern Munich together.” He quickly realized that he alone was “not a savior.” “I am someone who can work very well in a team. (…) I need the expertise of the people around me.” People like Christoph Freund, who started working at Säbener Straße in September and now has to share the sporting power after less than half a year.

Eberl praised his future partner highly: “Christoph is an absolute expert and I am extremely happy that he is already here and that the club has chosen him.” Eberl promises that in the future we will act “on an equal footing”. “They are two people who are totally success-oriented, who are totally team players, who have a certain common empathy and who value each other extremely.”

Dreesen has no doubts that the collaboration between Eberl and Freund will be fruitful. “Christoph is a person who not only knows Max from times past (…) but is unpretentious, serves the cause, is goal-oriented and is a real team player.” In addition, the CEO promises that no one will be bored. “There’s plenty of work for two people. I’m sure it works brilliantly as a team.”
