Disruptions expected in Netherlands due to storm – flight cancellations

AMSTERDAM (dpa-AFX) – Around 200 flights will be canceled at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on Thursday due to an expected storm. Travelers should also be prepared for delays, the airport announced on Wednesday. With gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour, only one of the runways can be used from midday. The handling of luggage from machines on the ground could also be affected.

The weather service KNMI issued a severe weather warning with a yellow warning level for the entire Netherlands. Wind speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour could be reached and on the coast in the north of the country up to 110 kilometers per hour. Breaking branches and flying objects such as roof tiles and garden furniture must be expected. There could also be disruptions on the roads.

The Netherlands is also preparing for floods on the large rivers such as the Rhine and Waal. The cause is heavy rain in the river catchment area and melting snow in the Alps./evs/DP/jha
