Disney’s “Moana” breaks records: The animated film was the second most streamed film on all streaming platforms in 2021 alone, even though it was released in 2016. Only Pixar’s “Luca” streamed more over the past year, at 10.5 billion minutes, documents Nielsen. “Moana” reached 8.8 billion streamed minutes – but viewers would have watched the film more often.
In fact, the film has been viewed so many times since its release that it’s now the most-streamed children’s film of all time. “Moana” also beats other Disney classics such as “Frozen”, “The Lion King” and “Arielle”, which also come from the “Moana” inventors Ron Clements and John Musker.
In “Moana” – in the English original – Auli’i Cravalho speaks the character of Moana and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson the Maui. In the top 10 most-streamed films of 2021, Luca and Moana are followed by Raya and the Last Dragon, Frozen 2, Red Notice, Frozen, Soul, Cruella and Die Mitchells against the machines”. Disney’s latest mega hit “Encanto” – the song that came from it “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” was the second Disney soundtrack contribution ever to reach number 1 on the US Billboard charts – it is probably only not on this list because the film was not released until Christmas 2021.
