Discover contemporary art during Kunstzomer Leiestreek
Kunstzomer aims to remove the fear of visiting galleries and give people the opportunity to discover contemporary art through a touristic approach
says curator José Sintobin.
Heule and Munster
In Heule you can see work by Freddy Bultynck, Geert Bourgeois, John Penning and Rogette Jonckiere in the chapel and garden of the Fatima site. Artist Bert Vanwynsberghe takes you to Muster where he set up the lab of the MAAM. Jan Clement also exhibits some images in Muster.
In Kortrijk you can see work by Jan Declercq, Mady Herman and Linda Lacombe in the Gothic room of the town hall. In Theater Antigone you will be introduced to the ceramic sculptures of Christine Vanhove, the ‘Roetisme’ of Etienne Roete, detailed pencil drawings and furniture designs by Ilse Buysschaert and the world of acrylic and epoxy by Heidi Harinck.
Saint Roch’s Church
This weekend you can also visit the former St. Roch’s Church. A year and a half ago, the church in the Doorniksewijk, together with an adjacent house, was bought by East Flemish art lovers. At that time, a sum of 500,000 euros was involved.
The new owners bought the church to house a private collection of works of art. The authenticity of the Saint-Roch church, built from 1870 in a neo-Gothic style, has been preserved.
Aalbeke, Rollegem, Bellegem and Kooigem
In July, the Summer of Art moves on to Aalbeke and Rollegem. In Aalbeke the Knokstraat is renamed Kunststraat and in Rollegem Erik Hebberecht, Jacky Bostoen, Jan Pieter De Graaf and the Italian artist Fabio Castelli exhibit in the Sint-Anna water tower. The Children’s Friend also participates.
At the end of the summer holidays, Bellegem and Kooigem are next. In OC De Wervel you can look at work by Griet Dierick, Jozefa Seynaeve, Lut Lambrecht and Voja E Art. There is also art in the church in Kooigem. The final stop is in Bissegem and Marke, where exhibitions take place in both meeting centers, but also in the Residence Farm and in the Rodenburg Chapel.
The exhibitions can be visited on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 pm to 6 pm.
