The people of Noord-Holland failed to qualify for the Olympic Games tonight. Dai Dai N’tab and Merijn Scheperkamp are not in Beijing in the 1,000 meters. Irene Schouten does not drive the 1,500 meters at the Games.
Scheperkamp, winner of the 500 meters, was sixth at almost a second from number one. He recorded a time of one minute, eight seconds and fifteen hundredths. N’tab was seventh with 1.08.65. Thomas Krol, Kai Verbij and Hein Otterspeer qualified for the Olympic Games. Reigning Olympic champion Kjeld Nuis was fourth and cannot defend his title at this distance.
In the 1,500 meters for women, Schouten placed, winner of the 3,000 meters, do not stand for Beijing. She was fifth with a time of 1.54.18. Antoinette de Jong, Ireen WĂĽst and Marijke Groenewoud finished in the top 3 and are certain of the Games.
