Disappeared councilor tracked down after 6 years by ‘Scammers Tackled’

Councilor Marjan Kleine from Budel suddenly disappeared from the Cranendonck council six years ago. Her party, the CDA, expelled her because she was unreachable. She disappeared without a trace and the housing corporation evacuated her house together with the police because she allegedly sublet it illegally. Program maker Kees van der Spek tracked her down for his program ‘Scammers Approached’.

In the broadcast of Tuesday evening it turns out that Kleine lives in Egypt. “You have left a trail of misery,” Van der Spek confronts her. The former councilor denies. Van der Spek confronts her with several people who, in his words, ‘feel sewn by her’. “Why does such a cesspool have to be opened now?”, she responds.

Van der Spek cites the example of a Spanish woman who says that Kleine defrauded her of 5,000 euros. The former councilor would have done this through a travel agency that she would have founded. According to the program maker, Kleine would also pose as a lawyer and psychologist.

In the latter capacity, Van der Spek’s son makes an appointment with her. And so it comes to a meeting between Van der Spek and the former council member. Van der Spek says he wants to know how she is now. “I don’t feel like having everything from my past stirred up,” she replies.

Research by Omroep Brabant in 2016 showed that Kleine was one of the council members who was most often absent from a council meeting. She herself indicated at the time that this was due to health problems. Not long after, she disappeared.
