Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Gray claims her ex-fiancé Johnny Depp was “insanely jealous and paranoid” during their time together.

The actress also writes in her memoir, out May 3, that Depp started getting into more and more trouble during their relationship. This manifested itself in fights in bars and problems with the police. Gray writes, “Johnny commuted back and forth from Vancouver every week, but he got into more and more trouble: fights in bars, skirmishes with cops.”

Already engaged after two weeks

Gray and Depp, who was introduced to her by her agent, met and fell in love in 1988. “If a mirage could have been a human in the summer of 1988, that mirage would have been Johnny Depp,” she writes.

She continues: Depp proposed to her within two weeks and they bought a puppy named Lulu. “She was our practice baby and someone who kept me company when Johnny was out of town,” Gray wrote.

However, their relationship deteriorated, as the actress writes: “He started missing his flights to LA because he overslept. When he came home he was insanely jealous and paranoid about what I had been doing while he was gone. I attributed his bad mood and dissatisfaction to feeling unhappy and powerless to get off of[the TV series]21 Jump Street.”

separation by note

She called off her engagement to Depp just before her 29th birthday after he went to a meeting and didn’t return for many hours. Gray writes in her autobiography that she broke up with Depp through a note she left in his hotel room. Their engagement only lasted nine months.

Gray later married actor Clark Gregg. The two divorced in 2021 after 19 years. Depp has been with Vanessa Paradis for a while and has two children with her. He is currently on trial over a defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
