About fulfilling a “huge lifelong dream” with his guest appearance on “Hello Spencer”.
For Dirk von Lowtzow Stages are not unfamiliar territory. On the contrary: as a Tocotronic singer, he has already seen dozens of them. What was he missing from his career so far? A performance with puppets. Because the 53-year-old loves these diverse creatures. What was once a childhood wish has now become a reality with his guest appearance in the new “Hello Spencer” film adaptation.
“Hello Spencer” – that was actually the successful puppet show series that ran on NDR from 1979 to 2001. But the new film for the children’s series is not just about dolls. Rather, we accompany Jakob Sesam, the fictional “genius” behind the doll idea. Because Sesame is in the middle of an existential crisis. A plan has to be found before he loses the old discotheque called “Coconut Cave” and the dolls their home. In a moment of darkness, Dirk von Lowtzow appears in his guest role out of nowhere. And with him a spark of hope and encouragement in the form of a song that he brings to the stage together with the Quietschbeus: “This is art”.
In the interview, von Lowtzow tells us about his fascination with puppets and what it was like for him to finally be able to perform with them – similar to the Muppet Show. But that’s not all: the Offenburg native tells us what he does in his phases of “drama and despair”. He also talks about the inspiration for his own art work and which film he was a “crazy, mega-huge fan” of in his childhood.
