He was the best friend of Javier Milei long before the “lion” dreamed of the presidential sash. Together they wrote books that cemented libertarian theory in Argentina and it was he, strictly speaking, who introduced it to the dogmas of the Austrian school. But today, Diego Giacomini observes the phenomenon from a critical distance and with brutal honesty. In an interview with Baby Etchecoparthe economist laid bare the power dynamics in the Casa Rosada and pointed out bluntly against the president’s inner circle: Karina Milei.

The void of the “former best friend”

For Giacomini, the rise of “The Boss” is not explained by political merit, but by an orphanhood. “I was the only person Javier trusted, respected, and accepted when he farted on me,” he recalled. According to his analysis, when the professional and personal relationship ended – in what he defines as a “divorce” where the account of addition and subtraction no longer closed – Milei was left unprotected.

“He, since he doesn’t have this history of interacting with people, evaluated it as a betrayal,” Giacomini explained. Faced with the loss of his only reference of trust and criticism, the current President took refuge in the only bond that he feels is unbreakable: his sister.

Hansel, Gretel and the lack of “instrumental”

The definition of the General Secretariat of the Presidency was devastating. Giacomini described Karina as a mirror of Javier in her “poverty of human action,” but with a key difference: “He has a much lower IQ”. According to the economist, she took advantage of the departure of her historical friends to monopolize power that she does not know how to handle.

The comparison used to describe the ruling duo is grim: “They’re like Hansel and Gretel.”. Two figures who support each other in the middle of an unknown forest, believing themselves to be “all-powerful” in the face of an opposition that, according to Giacomini, they ignore due to lack of contact with reality.

“People, when they have had very little contact in life, it is easier for them to believe circumstantial nonsense and climb themselves to the top of Everest without having the instruments,” he stated.

For whoever was his intellectual partner, the current management is the result of two people who “enthroned themselves” without the necessary tools to inhabit the summit. In Giacomini’s diagnosis, politics has not moderated Milei, but rather has locked him in an emotional bunker where the only voice heard is that of a sister to whom he attributes an intellectual capacity far below that of the President.
