Diede Lemey named best goalkeeper in Italian Serie A for women

The West Flemish won for, among others, the goalkeeper of the Italian national team (AC Milan) and the French national team (Juventus).

Lemey, born in Tielt, can look back on a strong season with Sassuolo, which finished fourth in the standings. Lemey herself can also present good figures and she kept a clean sheet nine times in 22 competition matches.

Despite her stellar performances abroad, Lemey’s name sounds little known to football fans at home. After all, she is not a permanent choice for national coach Ives Serneels for the national team. For example, despite 53 selections, Lemey has only seven caps.

Lemey moved from RSC Anderlecht to the Italian first division team Verona in 2017 at the age of 20. In 2018 she made the switch to Atalanta Mozzanica. A year later, in 2019, she moved to her current employer Sassuolo.
