Die Toten Hosen turn 40: Ten of their best live videos

It doesn’t matter whether it’s in the Düsseldorf stadium, in Argentinian clubs or in fan living rooms on the Magical Mystery tours: The Toten Hosen are one thing first and foremost — a great live band. Of course, they haven’t just been that since yesterday, but for four decades. On April 10, 1982, Campino, Breiti, Kuddel, Andi and Trini played their first concert in the Bremen slaughterhouse. For this reason, we are dedicating ourselves to ten live videos of the band at this point, which impressively underpin their status as one of the best live acts in the country.

Ten great live videos of Toten Hosen

“Paradise” — Live in Dusseldorf 2005

The Hosen in Düsseldorf, of course, always means a triumphant home game. On September 10, 2005, the band performed in the Düsseldorf Arena – and not exactly in front of a club audience. A special highlight was the track “Paradies”, originally released on the 1996 long-player “Opium fürs Volk”.

“Make a wish” – Unplugged in the Vienna Burgtheater 2005

The band’s unplugged concerts in Vienna’s Burgtheater have long since become legendary. High culture and pants, we know that this works well, at least since “A Little Bit of Horror Show”. Here, the Düsseldorfers prove that it can also be done without distorted electric guitars and impressive thunderous drums – check out “Wünsch dir was”, for example.

“Here Comes Alex” — Live in Argentina

The fact that the pants have a large — and very enthusiastic — fan base in Argentina is now also well known in Germany. The Argentinian audience, one gets the impression, is just a bit more impetuous, more enthusiastic – and despite the language barrier, sings along with the German-language songs remarkably well. You can see how that sounds in this version of Here Comes Alex.

“Welcome to Germany” – “Degenerate Music – Welcome to Germany – A Memorial Concert” (2015)

In 2015, the Hosen played a very special concert – and performed together with the young symphony orchestra of the Robert Schumann Hochschule music that the National Socialists described as “degenerate”. In addition to pieces by Kurt Weill, the Comedian Harmonists and a work by Arnold Schönberg, the program also included the Toten Hosen song “Welcome to Germany”, the original version of which was released in 1993 on “Kauf mich!”.

Rock am Ring 2017

The trousers have had a long-standing, intimate relationship with “Rock am Ring”. They’ve performed at the renowned festival quite a few times, and it’s always had a good bang — like here in 2000, for example.

Magical Mystery Tour (Example: Vienna, 2017)

The magic of the Magical Mystery Tour: Fans can apply for a Hosen concert — and if the application is courageous and exciting enough, Campino & Co. actually come by, play for umme and sleep on the couch. There are no official live videos, but there is a small documentary from one of these performances in Vienna, where a very intimate and very sweaty version of “Bonnie & Clyde” can be heard.

“Everything will pass” – Live in Düsseldorf 2005

And again the Düsseldorf concert from 2015. With the piece “Everything will pass” the band provided goosebumps – and a short breather.

“Being Beautiful” / “Opel-Gang” — Live in Buenos Aires, 2005

Because it’s so nice, let’s go back to the pants in Latin America. On October 15, 2005, the band performed at the Estadio Obras Sanitarias in Buenos Aires. An Argentine TV station broadcast the show. The highlights included “Being beautiful” and “Opel-Gang”.

“Love Song” – Live from the Alabama, Munich 1987

Let’s go back in time — to the year 1987. That’s when the Toten Hosen performed in Munich’s Alabama. The unofficial recording has long been a classic — we recommend, for example, the version of “Love Song”.

Christmas concert 1993

On December 23, 1993, the Hosen gave one of their historic Christmas concerts in Düsseldorf. The band opened the evening with “Wünsch dir was” from the recently released record “Kauf mich!”. You can enjoy the WDR recording of this evening on YouTube.
