Maxime Meiland has reached a settlement with the man she accused of rape without any evidence. It appears the reality star has paid him damages. “Yes!”
After years of legal battle, Maxime Meiland has reached a settlement with the man she accused of rape without any evidence. She used her accusation as a hook to hang her book on, hoping it would become a bestseller. “I am pleased that today a long-running procedure has come to an end.”
Completely logical
Maxime was burdened by the legal proceedings that the man had initiated against her. It’s laughable, says Telegraaf reporter Jordi Versteegden. “I thought: yes, you are writing a book about it, dear lady, so I thought it was completely logical that it eventually led to such a legal battle,” he says in Show news.
What has been agreed? That is unclear. “They don’t want to talk about who exactly received money. Did that boy receive money from Maxime or the other way around?”
Blackening
Reporter Janine Schuinder finds it strange that both parties have agreed to fundamentally disagree, but are still allowed to talk about their experiences. Only the legal proceedings have therefore been stopped. “They can still completely vilify each other, but they have agreed that no more cases will be started about it. Special.”
Jordi: “And the book is still available. Not that it is bought en masse, but it is striking.”
Janine: “I spoke to Sébas and I have the impression that she is irritated. He didn’t want to say that so loudly, but she benefits more from the fact that there is now more peace than he does.”
‘She paid’
Bram Moszkowicz has the feeling that Maxime has paid to be rid of it. “That boy was winning, because she had to testify and they fought for that all this time. Yes, I don’t know, but I think something financial also happened. The strange thing: I have often made those settlements, but…”, he begins.
He continues: “The first condition was that you would no longer say anything about each other, which is actually the whole reason for the case. A final discharge. That is what I miss in that settlement. On the other hand, I think it is creative. I think it is a remarkable settlement. Once again: he was winning.”
Huge regret
All in all, it was a costly joke for Maxime to just accuse someone of rape. It allegedly happened when they were both 15 years old. “In any case, I think she deeply regrets that book and that she brought it in without ever reporting it,” says Jordi.
Reporter Aran Bade concludes RTL Boulevard: “We have asked a little whether amounts have been paid and both parties do not want to make any statements about it.”
